Who Is In Control of Things?
Memory Verse: “If any of you lack Wisdom, let him Ask of God, that Giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For, he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” James 1:5, 6.
When we come to God’s word to study, we should always pray and ask for wisdom from God to give us understanding of his word. We have already looked a little on Daniel back in our lesson on health. But, now these next few lessons are going to bring Daniel and his story out together. Some people don’t know that the book of Daniel has given us the history of the world’s most powerful nations.
There is a reason why these prophecies are in the Bible. We will see that Daniel’s prophecies did come true just as it was given. To me it proves that the God of Heaven created the universe, and that He rules it. He can tell us what will happen, before it happens. He asks that we give Him honor by believing his word and learning His prophecies. They will help us to understand where we are in this earth’s history.
1. For whom was the prophecy in Daniel 2:28 written? “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the _______ _______. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;” Daniel was written so, that we in the latter days may know what is soon coming upon this earth.
2. The prophet Isaiah tells us in chapter 42 verse 9, “Behold, the former things are come to pass, and _________ __________ do _________ __________: __________ _________ spring __________ I tell you of them.” The old things you know, they pass away, but before the new things come to pass. I tell you what is to come; the study of prophecy helps us understand better the world around us today. God wants us to understand these last day prophecies. They may seem hard to understand but with prayer for God’s help, He will teach us by His HOLY SPIRIT. This lesson is to help us see why prophets and prophecies were given.
3. God knows the future; He knows the end from the beginning is there any like God? Isaiah 46:9. “Remember the former things of old: for ____ _______ _________, and __________ _______ _______ ________; I AM GOD, and there is none like me,” with our minds it’s hard to understand how God knows everything even before it happens. Isaiah 46:10. “Declaring the _______ from the ___________, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, _______ __________ shall ________, and I will do all my pleasure:” God shares some of these things that he knows will happen, to us, thought his prophets; Because he is interested in us. These things will help us understand the times we live and what is ahead.
4. Who did God use to reveal these prophecies? Amos 3:7. “Surely The Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto _________ ________ the ______________.” He gave them unto men that were servants. Those who were willing to do, a work for Him. They are like a light to guide our feet in the way of The Lord. When we see prophecies have been fulfilled or are being fulfilled, it gives us greater faith in God’s word.
5. Who are God’s servants today? Romans 6:16. “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants _____ _________, His servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of ________ unto ___________, or of ________________ unto ________________.” By obedience to God’s word, we become his servants. But if we do not obey we are servants of the enemy. God used men in old times that did his will. He can use us (you) today to help finish his work on this earth.
6. How were these prophecies given to the prophets of old? 2 Peter 1:21. (Also read verses 19, 20) “For the _________came not in old time by the will of man: but _________ __________ of __________ spake as they were __________ by the __________ ___________.” The Holy Ghost moved on the hearts of men to show them things to come.
7. Will a prophet speak his own words? Jeremiah 1:9. “Then the Lord put forth his hand, and ___________ my ___________. And The Lord said unto me, behold, _______ have put my ___________ in __________ ____________.” The Lord gave Jeremiah words to speak.
8. In fact we are told that not only prophecy but the whole scripture is given to us how? 2 Timothy 3:16. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for ____________, for _____________, for __________, for ____________ in righteousness:” so that a man of God may be what? 2 Timothy 3:17. “That the man of God may be __________ thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
9. We are to take prophecy and do what with it? 1 Thessalonians 5:21. “__________ ___________ ____________; ___________ ____________ that which is _____________.” Study it, prove it, to be true and then hold fast to it, and believe it.
10. By what means do we test these prophecies? Isaiah 8:19, 20 “And when they shall say unto you, seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? For the living to the dead? To the ___________ and to the ____________: if they speak not according to ____________ ___________, it is because there is ________ ___________ ________ ________.” It must be in accordance with God’s law, and with the other writers of God’s word.
Isaiah also tells us how to study The Bible. Isaiah 28:10 “For ____________ must be upon __________, precept upon precept; _________ upon __________, line upon line; ________ a little, and _________ a little:” Scripture is its own interpreter, it will explain itself. The Old Testament helps interpret the New Testament; and the New Testament helps us learn more what the Old Testament is saying. “Here a little, there a little,” Put it all together, makes it easier to understand.
11. How do you know if a prophet is a false prophet? Jeremiah 28:9. “The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the ________ of the __________ shall ___________ to ______________, then shall the prophet be known that The Lord hath truly sent him.”
If the prophecy comes true, you can know it is a true prophet. But their predictions must be 100 % accurate. We have a lot of modern psychics that do predictions today, but they are only getting 50 - 70 % right. They must be 100 % right if they are from God.
12. In our study of the Old Testament it points us to The Jesus, in the New Testament. One pointed forward to his life, death, and resurrection, the Old Testament pointed to His first coming as a baby. The New Testament points to his second coming, as a King of Kings. What does The New Testament, testify about Jesus? 1 Peter 1:19. “But with the precious ___________ of ___________, as of a __________ without ____________ and without _____________:”
13. The little book of Daniel has much prophecy. It was given for the purpose to define what the Messiah would do and when he would come. What did Jesus say about Daniel? Matthew 24:15. “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by ____________ the _____________, stand in The Holy Place, (whoso readeth, let him understand :)” Jesus own words called Daniel the Prophet. It also said we should read and understand. We know that there is a lot in Daniel that helps explain Revelation, and there is a lot in revelation, that helps us understand Daniel. In these lessons we will look at these two books of prophecy.
14. There is a promise in Revelation which says, that we will be blessed if we do what? Revelation 1:3. “____________ is he that __________, and they that hear the _____________ of this ____________, and _________ those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” We are not only to read these things but keep them. Also, look at revelation 22:7 “Behold, I come quickly: ____________ is he that ____________ the ___________ of the _____________ of this book.”
