Prophet

In The Bible

Memory Verse: “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelation 19:10

What is a prophet? A prophet is a person who speaks by divine inspiration or as the interperter through whom the will of god is expressed.

1.            We know that God used people in the old times to help do his work. 2 Peter 1:21 “For the _________ came not in old time by the will of man: but _________ _________ of God spake as they were _________ by the __________ __________.” God sent his holy ghost to move on good men to do the work of writing the books of the bible. They were moved to go forward with the work that god gave them to do. That is why we have the King James bible today. Prophecy is a gift from god.

“It was Christ that spoke to His people through the prophets. The apostle Peter, writing to the Christian church, says that the prophets "prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow." 1 Peter 1:10, 11. It is the voice of Christ that speaks to us through the Old Testament. "The Testimony Of Jesus is the Spirit Of Prophecy." Revelation 19:10.  Patriarchs and Prophets page 336

2.       What is the purpose of prophecy? John 13:19 “Now I _________ you before it ___________, that, when it is come to ________, ye may believe that I am he.” There were many prophecies given in the old testament telling of Christ coming to the world. If they had been reading the word and had known the prophecies they would have known it was time for Christ to be born. Prophecies are given that we may know what is to come before it happens.

3.       Here are some of Jesus words in John 14:29 “And now _____ have ________ you _________ it _________ to ________, that, when it is come to pass, ye might _________.” John 16:4 “But these things have I told you, that when the ___________ shall ___________, _______ __________ ___________ that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.” Jesus was a prophet, he told his disciples things what were going to happen so that when they came to pass they would remember what he told them and their faith in him would be strengthened.

“The prophecies which the great I AM has given in His word, uniting link after link in the chain of events, from eternity in the past to eternity in the future, tell us where we are today in the procession of the ages and what may be expected in the time to come.” PK 536

4. We studied in Daniel 9:24-27 the prophecies of Daniel about Christ. This “time” had been given to Daniel by the angel Gabriel. Where there prophets in the new testament? Luke 7:28 “For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater __________ than ______ the _________: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” John was not a bible writer but yet he was a prophet. Acts 21:9, 10 tells about 4 daughters that prophesied, and Agabus who was a prophet. God uses people all through the ages to help with his work. He used them as he needed to, to get the truth out, before the people.

5. there is a blessing promised to those who do what? Revelation 1:1-3 in verse 3 “___________ is he that ___________, and they that _______ the _________ of this ____________, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

6.There were many prophets in the bible that were women. Here are five mentioned. List the women prophets.

            Exodus 15:20              ______________                                prophet

            Judges 4:4                   ______________                                prophet

            2 kings 22:14              ______________                                prophet

            Luke 2:36                    ______________                                prophet

            Acts 21:8, 9                ______ _______ ______________    prophet

7. We have also been warned also about false prophets in these last days. What does the bible say about them?

1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but _________ the ___________ whether they are of God: because many ________ __________ are gone out into the world.”

Matthew 24:24 “For there shall arise _________ __________, and _________ ____________, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

They had false prophets in old times.

Acts 13:6 “And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a __________ ____________, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:” Revelation 16:13 “And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the _________ _________.” False means contrary to fact or truth. Revelation 19:20 “And the beast was taken, and with him the _________ __________ that __________ __________ before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”     Even the false prophets will work miracles at the end of time.

8.We are to beware of false prophets for they will come to us how? Matthew 7:15, 16 “beware of __________ ________, which come to you in __________ _______, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them _______ ______ _________. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” We can know them by the way they live and talk. Are they Christ like or not?

9.When Israel had a question on what they should do, they went to see “a seerer”. A seerer was one that had the gift of prophecy. 1 Samuel 9:9 “(Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now _______ a _________ was beforetime called a seer.)” God’s prophets were called seerers those who were false prophets were called by other names sorcerers or witches, diviner or prognosticators ect….

10.            Will god’s waiting church at the end of time have a prophet? Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord _______ will ______ __________, but he __________ his _________ unto his servants the ____________.”

Here are the marks of a true prophet?

a)     True prophets will be genuine Christian. Matthew 7:15, 20

            Galatians 5:22, 23

b)     They will teach according to the scriptures. We are to prove for ourselves all things with the scriptures. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 -  21; Isaiah 8:20

c)     No matter if they can perform miracles if they teach contrary to the scriptures believe them not! Even if the prediction comes true believe them not! Deuteronomy 13:1- 4

d)     Their predictions must be 100 percent not 50 percent or 85 percent. Deuteronomy 18:22

e)     A prophet is unconscious of his surroundings while in vision. Those in his presence do not see what he is seeing or hear what he is hearing  Daniel 10:7

f)      A prophet does not breathe while in vision. Daniel 10:17 (last part)

g)      a prophet eyes remain open at times Numbers 24:4

11.            How does God speak to his people?  Numbers 12:6 “And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the _______ will ______ myself _______ unto him in a _________, and will speak unto him in a ____________.”

AMOS 3:7 “Surely the Lord ________ will _____ ________, but he _________ his ________ unto his servants the ________.” God revealeth himself, and his secrets to his people through the prophets.

12.            Why does God send prophets? 2 chronicles 24:19 “Yet he sent prophets to them, to _______ _________ _________ unto the _________; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.” They help bring us back to God and his word. A good example of a prophet was Moses. God used him to bring his people out of bondage and back to him. Acts 7:37 “This is that __________, which said unto the children of Israel,   _______ __________ shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.”

13.            How was the children of Israel brought out of Egypt? Hosea 12:13 “And by a _________ the _________ brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.” Has there ever been a time in earth's history, with all the confusion in the religious world today when a prophet was more needed?
